OP309. His Independence Day, unfortunately

Some good fortunes can be, and some can’t.
Sometimes offers are made which enchant.
     Okie title hopes slayed,
     He sought champs; Frisco bade,
And the Thunder lost Kevin Durant.

On July 4, superstar free agent Durant signed with the Golden State Warriors who had squeezed past his Oklahoma City squad to play for the NBA championship. I guess KD figured, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”

  1. Well, bro, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on your use of 'bade.' Most dictionaries list the pronunciation as "bad," and that's what I was taught clear back in grade school.

And while I don't really get how SF 'directed' the action, I'll give you a pass since I'd bet many bucks you were punning on San Francisco Bay('d.) Regardless, thanks for rejoining the fun!

    1. Pronounced as 'bad'? Really? Ugh! According to Canadian English, 35 million people have been taught to say it the way it's written - 'bade' (bayd) Thanks Steve; we Canucks enjoy and appreciate you standing behind our little grammar rule (whether intentional or not). Sorry Phil, you and you other Yankee friends out there will just have to grin and bear it for a day.
