1865. King of curmudgeons

Eighteen sixty five gets people thinkin'
Of the endings of war and of Lincoln
And had we all been born
Could have read words of scorn
From acerbic newsman H. L. Mencken.

Once again, my verse's number has influenced its subject matter.  Incidentally, Mencken wasn't born until 1880.

  1. Gotta love this quote of H. L. Mencken:

"Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood."

Well now, how relevant is THAT... ?
