1941-1942. Robert "Young Bob" Hodges, R.I.P.

My bridge partner passed on today
A stroke came and took him away
He'd lived 84 years
I am fighting back tears
For no more cards or golf will we play.

We'd watch when our teams took the floor
Or the field.  Thunder games, he kept score.
Say a sad missa brevis
Our bottles of Chivas
Will never be shared any more.

  1. I'm sorry for your loss. When good friends like that leave us, they take a piece of our heart with them, don't they?

On a lighter (but not unrelated) note, I had to look up 'missa brevis' (you always arouse my curiosity when you use words new to me), and saw that it's Latin for 'short mass.' I also saw, below the definition, the same words linked to musical passages, which I listened to. The Missa Brevis by Palestrina. Beautiful. Sometimes there is music out there that eases grieving, even if only a little. This piece would do it for me, whether the 2-minute version or the 21-minute one. Adding that to my playlist. What a nice coincidence on a sad day.

    1. Thank you, and may you have a better one than the last (always hoping every new year to be better than the previous one, until life is so good, we'll never want to leave by the time it's our turn to go!)
